EUROJET provides its customers with prime contracting services and is responsible for the management of all EJ200 engines with associated support.

A partnership in practice

EUROJET Turbo GmbH was formed in 1986 as the management company responsible for the EJ200 engine system, which in itself was created to meet the demands of the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. In the early 1980s, the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain together decided to together create a new generation military aircraft, which would later become known as the Eurofighter Typhoon. These 4 core nations of the programme then established the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) under the NATO charter to manage the project. Essentially, NETMA is EUROJET’s core customer and most of its industrial contracts are made with them for provision of the EJ200 to the various customer nations.
Maintaining the 4-nation character of the entire Eurofighter programme, EUROJET was also set up with 4 industry partners, one from each of the core nations (see Company Shareholders below). Partnership is the underlying principle of the entire programme and EUROJET manages its partnership from the company headquarters situated near Munich Airport in Germany.

Rolls Royce

Avio Aero

Avio Aero is a leading aviation business in the field of the design, manufacture and maintenance of parts and systems for the civil and military aeronautical industry. Taken over by General Electric in 2013, it is the point of reference and excellence for the whole of the GE Group with regards to mechanical transmissions and low pressure turbines. ITP Aero is involved in the complete life cycle of aeronautical engines from research, design and development to manufacturing and then on to maintenance. ITP Aero also provides full engine MRO support through its worldwide network, including accessories, parts and component repair services for regional, airlines, business aviation, helicopters, industrial and defence applications. MTU Aero Engines

MTU Aero Engines AG is Germany’s leading engine manufacturer and an established global player in the industry. The company engages in the design, development, manufacture, marketing and support of commercial and military aircraft engines in all thrust and power categories and stationary gas turbines. Established in 1934 in Munich, it now has operating affiliates all over the world, MTU has a local presence in major regions and markets. Further information:

The EJ200 is assembled in four different assembly lines, one in each of the industrial partner locations above. The workshare figure is linked with the number of aircraft and number of engines ordered by each core nation. The shareholders also manufacture the EJ200 parts according to their individual expertise (see where are the modules produced?).

Gerhard Bähr holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering and has a proven track record in the aerospace industry of over three decades giving him a unique understanding of the aerospace business from multiple vantage points.
He began his professional career as a test performance engineer in MTU Aero Engines in 1987 and following US resident engineering and programme positions, took on the role of Senior Manager for MTU Central Processes on his return to Germany. This was followed by Director of MTU Blisk Production and later Program Director TP400 / Tyne / Larzac. From 2016 until commencement of the position as EUROJET CEO, he led the MTU Erding site as Director of the Military Engine Maintenance and Assembly.

Jobs and Qualifications

The majority of EUROJET’s employees are employed directly by one of the four shareholders and seconded to EUROJET. Most are educated to degree level, in particular with a degree in Engineering, often specialising in either Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering.
